Tips For Making A Funeral Less Expensive

Posted on

When you have to plan a funeral and you have to do it with a limited budget, you might have some concerns about how you can get everything done. To help you figure out how you can get the funeral arrangements done and save some money while doing it, you will want to review some of the following options.

Do Not Have As Many Viewing Days

Some people will opt to have two or even three days dedicated to the viewing of their deceased loved one. This is because they feel as though they might need extra time to cope with their loss or because there is a lot of friends and family that will want to come pay their respects and say their final goodbyes. However, if money is a major concern for you, then cutting back on the number of viewing days is the first thing that you may want to do. You can still have a viewing but have it for one day only so you do not have to pay to rent the viewing room for additional days.

Consider The Option Of Cremation

Cremation is a lot more affordable than a traditional burial because there is no need for the purchase of a casket. You can simply keep the cremation remains in an urn or you can still bury them, but you will not have to place them in a casket. You can bury them in a plot that is purchased through a church or town cemetery. Some people will opt to bury the cremated remains on their own property. However, before you do that, remember to consult with your local town authority to make sure that it is legal in your area for you to do that and if there are any rules that you must follow. Just remember, if you do choose to have your loved one buried, even if it is just their ashes, you will need to select one of the markers to buy. You don't have to buy the most expensive one, as it just has to be something that will properly mark the grave.

For more information on purchasing grave markers, contact a company such as Norman's Memorials.

Ask For Some Help

There is nothing wrong with asking for help in your time of need, especially since the cost of a funeral can be so expensive. If you have done all you can to reduce the cost of the funeral and you are able to receive some financial contributions from friends and family, then you might not be left with a lot that you have to pay for on your own. What is left may be able to be covered by a credit card or you can ask the funeral director if they have a payment plan option that you can sign up for.

If you would like additional help figuring out ways to cut down on the cost of the funeral, you can always talk with friends and family who have had to go through this before. The funeral home director might even have some great tips to give you.
